According to CoinDesk, the Consensus conference, known for its blockchain debates, is set to host a unique event this year. Crypto influencers Nic Carter and David Hoffman will participate in a karate combat match on May 30 in Austin, Texas. The event, dubbed 'Influencer Fight Club 2', is part of the increasingly popular Karate Combat series. Carter, co-founder of Coin Metrics and Castle Island Ventures, will represent Bitcoin, while Hoffman, founder of media platform Bankless, will represent Ethereum. The match consists of two rounds of two minutes each, with a third round scheduled if a tiebreaker is needed.

Also participating in the event is Billy McFarland, the notorious Fyre Festival entrepreneur, who will face off against Alex, known by his handle @shillin_villain. Both Carter and Hoffman, despite being new to martial arts, are confident about the match. They have hired trainers to work on basic fighting skills and are preparing diligently. The friends have also placed a side bet, pledging to donate $10,000 to the winner's chosen open-source development group. Carter has chosen Bitcoin Core, while Hoffman has selected Protocol Guild.

The announcement of the match has drawn some mockery from the public, but Carter and Hoffman remain undeterred. They emphasize that their goal is to entertain and take on a new challenge, not to start professional fighting careers. This event is the 46th Karate Combat event and the second under the banner 'Influencer Fight Club (IFC)'. The first event, held in Mexico City in February, attracted hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube.

Karate Combat's founder, ONLYLARPING, aims for the format to become the 'first official sport of Web3'. The platform has a no-loss gaming feature, where Karate token-holders can bet on a winner and receive a small share of the prize money if they choose correctly. The Consensus conference will feature six influencer fights and 10 more conventional bouts involving professional fighters. The action begins on May 30 at 7 pm local time, with weigh-ins scheduled for May 29 at 5 pm on the Town Square stage.
