According to CryptoPotato, Ripple's XRP cryptocurrency, typically associated with cross-border payments, has found a unique use case in booking private jets. Although other cryptocurrencies like BTC and ETH could also serve this purpose, XRP has gained attention for its role in this niche market. The discovery came in response to a Twitter thread by lawyer John Deaton, who represents XRP holders in a case against the United States Securities and Exchange Commission.
The company offering this service, TapJets, has provided an amicus brief in the Ripple case, explaining that XRP solves the 'Friday Night Problem.' This issue arises when customers cannot pay for services through banking channels because banks are closed on Friday nights. TapJets, described as an Uber-like service for flights, allows users to book last-minute flights using XRP as payment. Since blockchain systems do not have days off, XRP can be used to pay for fuel, pilots, flight attendants, airport fees, and other expenses associated with private jet travel.
