According to Foresight News, Polygon Labs has released three proposals regarding the Polygon 2.0 upgrade and POL token migration on its governance page. The proposals cover the upgrade transition, post-upgrade Polygon 2.0 architecture specifications, and updates to its native token. The final Polygon 2.0 upgrade is expected to take place next year.
PIP-17 outlines the 'Phase 0' of Polygon 2.0. The main aspect of this proposal is to ensure that end-users and developers do not need to take any action on the existing Polygon PoS and Polygon zkEVM chains during the upgrade. PIP-18 proposes the implementation of the POL token, which aims to replace the existing MATIC token as the native gas and staking asset for the Polygon ecosystem. PIP-19 calls for upgrading the native Gas token on Polygon PoS from MATIC to POL in a way that ensures maximum backward compatibility, making sure that the new token upgrade does not change the compatibility of smart contracts on Polygon PoS.
