According to CryptoPotato, the team behind Clockwork, a decentralized automation protocol for the Solana blockchain, has announced they will no longer maintain the codebase due to limited profit and a desire to explore new opportunities. Clockwork received seed funding from backers such as Multicoin Capital and Asymmetric a year ago. Founder and CEO Nick Garfield stated that the team will shut down their nodes on devnet and mainnet by October 31, 2023, and focus on other opportunities.
Despite the team's departure, Clockwork's code will remain open-source and available on GitHub for any developer looking to fork it. This allows interested parties to continue the project and potentially make modifications. Garfield also recommended alternatives for Clockwork users, such as the decentralized Oracle network Switchboard, Helius Labs, and Triggr, a no-code automation solution.
Clockwork is an on-chain automation tool that leverages Solana's speed and high performance, enabling developers to schedule transactions and automate smart contracts. In August 2022, the project received $4 million in a seed funding round co-led by Multichain Capital and Asymmetric, with participation from Solana Ventures.
Garfield emphasized that the move is a transition to full decentralization, with the success of the Clockwork project now depending on users and the broader Solana community. He added that the team will do what they can to ensure continued service for those who currently rely on Clockwork.
