A lot of $USDT FUD going around, so here's the reality:

$USDT is NOT becoming illegal in Europe on Dec

30,2024

MiCA rules will require compliance, but there's a 6-18 month transition period for providers

Some exchanges are delisting early, others are waiting for clarity

$USDC may be the better MiCA-compliant stablecoin option but there is still no clarity.

If Tether, the issuer of USDT, has not achieved compliance, the token is considered non-compliant with MiCA. This doesn't make USDT outright "illegal," but it does mean that exchanges and financial services operating in the EU must assess their risk and compliance.

Many may choose to proactively delist USDT to avoid regulatory penalties or issues with licensing under MiCA.

This is why some exchanges in the EU are shifting focus to stablecoins like USDC, which are actively working to meet MiCA compliance.

For users, it means fewer options for accessing USDT in the region unless Tether achieves compliance or adjusts its operations to align with MiCA standards.
