Craig Wright, who has repeatedly and falsely claimed to be Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, was given a one-year suspended sentence in the UK for five counts of contempt of court. He was also fined £145,000, approximately $180,000 for his actions. During a hearing in December 2021, Judge James Mellor ruled that Wright had breached a court order by filing lawsuits against Bitcoin developers despite prior instructions to cease all legal actions against them.

Wright’s actions were deemed a “desperate publicity stunt” and “terrorism” against developers and bloggers. His ongoing claims of intellectual property rights related to Bitcoin have been dismissed by the legal system. In July 2021, Wright acknowledged he was not the creator of Bitcoin.
