Bitcoin Salary Decision Gains Approval From New York Mayor
According to Foresight News, New York City Mayor Eric Adams has expressed satisfaction with his decision to receive part of his salary in cryptocurrency, as Bitcoin's price has surged close to $100,000 this year. During a press conference on Tuesday, Adams recalled the skepticism he faced when he first opted for Bitcoin payments, stating, "Remember when you all laughed at me for taking my salary in Bitcoin? Who's laughing now?"
Upon taking office in January 2022, Adams converted approximately $30,000 of his first three months' salary into Bitcoin and Ethereum. His latest financial disclosure indicates that by the end of 2023, the value of his Bitcoin holdings ranged between $5,000 and $54,999. Adams is not alone in this approach; Miami Mayor Francis Suarez and Belgian Member of Parliament Christophe De Beukelaer have also chosen to receive their salaries in Bitcoin, reflecting a growing trend among public officials to embrace cryptocurrency as a form of compensation.
