On November 29, BlockBeats news reported that Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has restructured the ruling party’s Web3 and cryptocurrency policy-making departments. According to Digital Minister Taira Shoaki’s announcement on November 27, the Liberal Democratic Party will disband the existing Web3 Project Team (PT) and establish a specialized agency within the party’s digital society promotion department.

Former Web3 PT Secretary-General Shiozaki Akihisa will lead the new agency. The government will continue to promote Web3-related business development and reform Japan’s cryptocurrency tax regulations. Furthermore, the government plans to use blockchain technology and NFTs to promote local development projects and enhance the value of local products to a global level, as stated in Ishiba’s campaign platform.
