A wearable device called the “intelligent throat” has been created by a team of researchers to help stroke patients with a speech disorder called dysarthria communicate naturally again. This device uses sensors and artificial intelligence to understand silent speech and emotions. In tests, it showed a 4.2% word error rate and a 2.9% sentence error rate, better than current technologies.

The device is comfortable, easy to use, and can be worn all day. The researchers hope to use this technology for other conditions like ALS and Parkinson’s, and to create a version that can understand multiple languages. They are now working on making the device smaller and easier to use.
