Elon Musk details Tesla’s road to selling Optimus and Robotaxi affordably
Elon Musk outlined the path Tesla will take to make Optimus and Robotaxi affordable as the company aims to provide autonomy and AI-driven products to consumers at a low cost. Tesla's Robotaxi and Optimus programs are some of its most innovative projects, alongside the Full Self-Driving (FSD) suite. The two are closely linked, with Robotaxi relying on fully autonomous technology and Optimus potentially serving as a home assistant. Musk envisions Optimus performing tasks like walking dogs or watching kids. Tesla plans to launch the Robotaxi by 2027, though the timeline might extend toward 2030.
The goal is to make both products affordable, with Optimus expected to cost between $20,000 and $30,000, and Robotaxi priced similarly around $30,000. Offering these products at the cost of a non-autonomous car would be a remarkable achievement if Tesla can meet this challenge. Musk stated that the pair could be sold for $60,000, but reaching this price will require substantial production volumes.
