According to Odaily, Theta Labs, the development team behind the entertainment-focused blockchain project Theta Network, has introduced a mobile version of EdgeCloud. This new application allows Android users to contribute their spare GPU power to the Theta EdgeCloud network and earn TFUEL tokens in return. The app is now available on Google Play, enabling users to provide idle resources to support AI research in media, healthcare, and finance sectors. Utilizing DePIN, Theta EdgeCloud reduces the cost of GPU-intensive tasks by over 50% compared to traditional cloud providers, offering scalable and decentralized AI model training and inference services.
The official blog states that the Theta team has successfully implemented a video object detection AI model (VOD_AI) on consumer-grade Android mobile devices. This model performs genuine computation at the edge, achieving high scalability and coverage. VOD_AI is a computer vision technology that scans video frames to detect potential objects and draws bounding boxes around them. It uses artificial intelligence to analyze video frames and identify objects, functioning similarly to the human visual cortex.
