Despite a growing global trend towards digital payments, Canadians remain loyal to cash and bank cards, with less than 3% using cryptocurrencies for daily transactions in 2022 and 2023, according to a Bank of Canada survey. The majority of respondents showed a preference for e-transfers over other alternatives. Over 80% indicated no plans to stop using cash in the future, a trend consistent since 2019. However, Canada's Bitcoin ATM network continues to expand, hosting the second-largest network globally. Meanwhile, the Bank of Canada has inaugurated the BIS Toronto Innovation Centre to foster financial innovation.
