Disney is gearing up to launch its own NFT platform in collaboration with Dapper Labs, introducing iconic characters from the last century in tokenized form on their new NFT marketplace called Disney Pinnacle.According to the announcement, Disney plans to tokenize its iconic characters from past decades, allowing fans to collect dynamic badges and trade them securely and instantly worldwide. Roham Gharegozlou, CEO of Dapper Labs, explained, "Fans will be able to collect dynamic badges on the platform and trade them instantly and securely, no matter where they are in the world."The NFT platform is expected to debut later this year on the Apple App Store for iOS, the Google Play Store for Android, and the web. Currently, there is a waiting list for interested users on the official website.Pixar and Star Wars NFTs in Badge FormThe platform will feature iconic characters from Pixar as well as heroes and villains from the Star Wars galaxy. These digital badges will be unique and tradable, providing fans with a novel way to engage with their favorite characters in the digital realm.However, Disney, like many other companies, has faced challenges in the economic environment. Earlier this year, the company reduced its operating costs by $5.5 billion and laid off 7,000 employees within two months. The metaverse division, with around 50 members, was left without work contracts.Potential of Flow and Dapper LabsDisney Pinnacle will be built on the Layer-1 blockchain Flow, created by Dapper Labs. Flow has gained attention in the blockchain space for its scalability and efficiency. Notably, Ticketmaster decided to utilize the Flow blockchain for its NFT ticketing system, indicating broader industry adoption.Dapper Labs initially gained prominence with the launch of CryptoKitties, an NFT game running on the Ethereum blockchain, in 2017.
