Is Estherscape Worth Playing and Waiting for? Exploring Gameplay, Replayability, and Web3 Integration

  • Is the game worth playing?
Yes, Etherscape is worth playing, especially for fans of rogue-lite action RPGs who enjoy challenging gameplay with permanent consequences and a focus on loot-driven progression. The game’s dynamic elements and blockchain-based ownership add a layer of depth that can appeal to those seeking a unique gaming experience.

  • Does it stand on its own as a game?
Absolutely, Etherscape holds its own as a game. Its core rogue-lite mechanics, such as procedurally generated levels, dynamic loot, and high-stakes combat, make it engaging even without the Web3 aspects. It offers a solid fantasy action RPG experience that can captivate both casual and dedicated players.

  • Appeal to a non-crypto audience?
Etherscape can appeal to a non-crypto audience due to its strong gameplay foundation, engaging mechanics, and procedurally generated challenges. While the Web3 aspects are integrated, they do not overshadow the traditional gaming experience, allowing non-crypto players to enjoy the game purely for its action and strategy elements.

  • Replayability
The game’s replayability is high, driven by its procedurally generated levels, randomized loot, and permanent death mechanic. Each playthrough feels fresh and challenging, encouraging players to return and explore different strategies and builds.

  • Web3 Integration
Etherscape’s Web3 integration allows players to mint and trade NFTs based on in-game loot, creating a player-driven economy. This adds a new dimension to gameplay and rewards player investment and exploration.

  • Are the Web3 elements easy to grasp?
For players familiar with crypto concepts, the Web3 elements are straightforward. The game does a decent job of explaining NFT minting and trading, although completely new users may require some onboarding or guidance to fully understand the mechanics.

  • Is the integration good? Additive or superfluous?
The Web3 integration in Etherscape is well-implemented and additive rather than superfluous. It enhances the player experience by offering real ownership of in-game assets and a marketplace for trading, without detracting from the core gameplay. This balance ensures that both traditional gamers and blockchain enthusiasts can find value in playing.

TOKENOMICS OVERVIEW

Etherscape integrates blockchain technology to provide players with genuine ownership of in-game items, enabling them to trade these assets on cryptocurrency marketplaces. The game utilizes the Enjin Blockchain, chosen for its reliability, cost-effective and swift NFT transactions, and established Enjin Coin ecosystem. This integration supports a player-driven economy, allowing participants to mint in-game items as NFTs, thereby granting them real-world value and facilitating seamless trading within the game’s marketplace.

Community Wallet:

Community Wallet is a dedicated fund comprising 25% of the game’s income sources, including marketplace royalties, account upgrade token sales, premium in-game currency (“gems”) sales, and validator rewards. The remaining 75% is allocated to development funding.

The Community Wallet supports various community-driven initiatives, such as:

  • Airdrops to players

  • Hosting events and competitions with rewards

  • Incentivizing governance participation

  • Subsidizing transaction costs through Fuel Tanks

  • Providing grants to creators building projects on the Enjin platform

  • Funding collaborations to develop cross-game metaverse tokens

Spending decisions for the Community Wallet are determined through the game’s governance system, allowing players to vote on fund allocation. Once the game is live, the wallet’s contents will be publicly accessible, ensuring transparency.

Players can monitor the Community Wallet’s balance in-game by accessing the wallet window and selecting the ‘C’ button in the upper left corner. Additionally, the wallet’s balance is viewable on SubScan.

Etherbound Items

In Etherscape, players can transform valuable in-game items into “Etherbound” items by minting them as NFTs through the Etherforge. This process grants players full ownership of these items, allowing them to be used in-game, traded, or sold on platforms like NFT.io.

Upon a character’s death, Etherbound items enter a “stasis” period, during which they cannot be equipped until the stasis timer expires. The duration of stasis varies based on the item’s level and rarity. For instance, a level 10 rare item has a stasis time of 1.4 hours, while a level 10 ascended legendary item has a stasis time of 80 hours. Players can expedite the stasis period using gems by visiting the Underworld Dealer in town.

The costs associated with minting and trading Etherbound items contribute to the development of future content and fund a community wallet. This wallet is utilized to create NFT content that is distributed back to players through airdrops or competitions, fostering a player-driven economy within the game.

Governance

A governance system centered around Imperial Sovereigns, the game’s governance tokens. By holding these tokens, players can vote on various aspects, including:

  • Allocation of community wallet funds

  • Game balance adjustments

  • Introduction of new content

  • Land expansions

  • Cross-game item collaborations

Each Imperial Sovereign grants one vote per proposal. To participate, players interact with the in-game Governor NPC, located northeast of town, to access the governance interface. This interface displays active and past proposals, voting schedules, individual vote counts, and potential ENJ rewards for participation.

Imperial Sovereigns are available for purchase on NFT.io and offer additional in-game benefits beyond voting rights. These tokens are designed to enhance player engagement and ensure that the game’s evolution aligns with the community’s preferences. Source.

Etherscape isn’t just a game; it’s an immersive world where players hold true ownership and shape the journey. With dynamic gameplay, strategic NFT integration, and a robust community governance system, Etherscape transforms gaming into a collaborative, player-driven experience. Dive in, forge your own path, and become a part of this evolving adventure—where every quest, battle, and vote counts.
