An Australian man has been sentenced to two years in prison for cyber-enabled identity theft, including using counterfeit documents to establish online cryptocurrency accounts. The conviction follows an international investigation into a website selling fraud-enabling technology linked to thefts exceeding AUD 1 million ($670,000). The Australian Federal Police (AFP) launched Operation Stonefish in August 2022 after UK authorities investigated a website offering spoofing services. The man was found guilty of several charges under Australia's Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 and the Criminal Code.
