Hackers continue to target the cryptocurrency sector. Beyond small crypto investors, hackers seem to have also captured crypto projects and whales. Their actions are causing losses to many investors.

Another major cryptocurrency theft has taken place today. As a result, a whale lost $71 million in #Bitcoin (BTC) to hackers.

Look On-Chain, a prominent data provider, shared the details and story of this theft via its X/Twitter account with the following:

Someone lost 1,155 #WBTC (worth $71 million) due to a phishing attack.

Here's what happened behind this attack:

* Six hours ago, this person created a new address named "0xd9A1b0B1e1aE382DbDc898Ea68012FfcB2853a91" and transferred 0.05 ETH to this new address.

* The scammer created a new address with the same starting and ending letters and transferred 0 ETH to himself, causing the transfer to appear in the transaction history.

* Many wallets mask the central part of the address with "..." to enhance the user interface appearance.

* When the whale wanted to transfer WBTC to his new address, he accidentally copied the address created by the scammer (since the starting and ending letters of the two addresses are the same) and sent all the WBTC to the scammer.

We advise our readers to double-check every transfer to prevent crypto hackers from stealing their assets.
