Christian Langaris held up a Buy Bitcoin poster during a televised appearance before Congress in 2017.

The man who photobombed former US Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen with a notepad that read Buy Bitcoin sold that very same notepad at auction for more than $1 million.

Notably, the yellow notepad labeled Buy Bitcoin was discovered by 22-year-old Christian Langaris when Yellen testified before Congress on television in 2017. Langaris had no idea that his impromptu act would later come to symbolize the enduring appeal of cryptocurrencies. The iconic sign was auctioned off on the Scarce #City platform last week.

The final event took place on Wednesday, April 24 at Pub Key #Bar in New York City. The iconic Buy Bitcoin sign was featured on Pubkey during the auction.

Notably, Langaris himself participated in the final auction: after a week of bidding, the iconic sign was sold to the highest bidder, the pseudonym Squirrekkywrath. He outbid everyone else and purchased 16 BTC worth $BTC The closest bid to Squirrekkywrath's bid was NoCB's bid of 15.5 BTC. The auction site noted that the yellow pad is a sign that bitcoin has invaded the global currency environment. It added that the Buy Bitcoin display is one of the few widely recognized physical relics of bitcoin, given its virtual nature.

Notably, in July 2017, Christian Langaris, an intern at the Cato Institute, made headlines when he boldly held a Buy Bitcoin sign behind Janet Yellen. Yellen was reportedly speaking before Congress to deliver the Fed's semi-annual report on monetary policy.
