According to Odaily, Tanzania has imposed restrictions on access to the social media platform X. This ongoing disruption has been confirmed by the internet monitoring organization Netblocks. Concurrently, the police have issued warnings about planned attacks on police stations by opposition parties. Tundu Lissu, a prominent politician, along with four other opposition officials from the Chadema party, have been arrested in Tanzania. The police have cautioned Chadema members who organize protests via Zoom, stating that these meetings are being used to plan minor attacks. In response, Tanzanian citizens have turned to virtual private networks (VPNs) to access X and voice their dissatisfaction. Last year, the government considered implementing a mandatory licensing system for VPN usage.
