In this post: Vitalik Buterin mentioned Soneium as an example of a transparent L2 blockchain that can be analyzed by the community.
Soneium has blacklisted tokens, mainly due to infringement of Sony's intellectual property.
The new L2 #blockchain is in the growth phase and will begin paying #Ethereum rent for space on the blockchain.
Vitalik Buterin praised Soneium's launch of L2 as an example of alignment with business and user priorities. Business-class L2 remains transparent and traceable in the event of disputes
Vitalik Buterin, founder of Ethereum, praised Sony's launch of Soneium as an example of business-class L2 implementation. The current L2 technology allows companies to choose which controls to keep and which to hand over to users, Buterin explained in an X post. Buterin tried to clarify whether L2 behavior is reflected in Ethereum and whether censorship is an ecosystem-wide problem.
The @Soneium situation is a good live demonstration of how good the Ethereum L2 launch is for businesses and users.
businesses can make very fine-grained choices about what control to keep and what control to give to users.
Soneium's
is a long list of over 127 L2 chains, each with its own culture and usage scenarios. He joins the list. The token censorship measure is a precedent not seen on other chains, despite the emergence of tokens that violate intellectual property rights.
Buterin's statement violates his own rule of not mentioning L2 chains in 2025 unless they are at least in the first stage of decentralization. Soneium is still a stage 0 project and part of the Optimism superchain. The new chain is working on the changes needed to move to stage 2 with fully decentralized security. As of January 2025, Arbitrum and Optimism are the only stage 1 chains, as Buterin mentioned in his previous statement.
developers can appeal being blacklisted and reuse their smart tokens after compliance is achieved.
Soneyum is mainly protecting SONY's IP.
