On Dec. 18, ASIC filed legal action against Binance Australia Derivatives for alleged consumer protection failures. ASIC claims the crypto derivatives trading platform misclassified over 500 retail clients as wholesale investors between July 2022 and April 2023, removing their legal protections. ASIC stated retail clients are entitled to stronger consumer protections and described the misclassification as “woefully inadequate.”

22, Interpol issued a Red Notice for Richard Schueler, the founder of Hex, for alleged tax fraud and assault of a 16-year-old victim. Schueler was also listed on Europe’s most-wanted fugitives list for the same allegations. Roman Storm, co-founder of Tornado Cash, filed a motion in the Manhattan District Court for his charges to be dropped after an appeals court found sanctions against the platform’s smart contracts unlawful.

South Korean National Assembly member Kim Nam-kuk faces a six-month jail sentence for allegedly not reporting his entire cryptocurrency holdings to the government. Prosecutors say he “obstructed the National Assembly Ethics Committee’s review” of his assets.
