Australian financial educator Scott Pape, also known as “The Barefoot Investor,” recently exposed cryptocurrency fraudsters who stole his identity to scam his followers. The scammers created numerous fake Facebook groups mimicking Pape’s likeness, hoping to deceive people into participating in their scams.
Rather than wait for Facebook
Rather than wait for Facebook to remove the groups, Pape engaged with the scammers and shared details of their operation. The scam involved creating a “Wealth Institute” and offering cryptocurrency trading lessons via WhatsApp. Pape posed as a victim, joining the group and eventually being offered an “exclusive” investment program starting at $20,000.
However, upon realizing it was a scam, Pape exposed the operation publicly to warn others. This incident highlights the growing issue of cryptocurrency scams and the importance of vigilance when dealing with online investments.
