Convicted hacker Ilya Lichtenstein, currently serving a five-year prison sentence for stealing billions of dollars worth of Bitcoin from cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex, issued a statement from his jail cell claiming responsibility for the crime and insisting that his wife, Heather Morgan, who was also sentenced to 18 months in prison for laundering the stolen funds, played no role in the hack.

In a video posted online, Lichtenstein stated that Morgan had no knowledge of the hack for years and was only involved in laundering a small portion of the funds. Despite admitting guilt, Lichtenstein suggested that his skills could be valuable in the cybersecurity industry upon release. Meanwhile, Morgan, who goes by the rap name “Razzlekhan,” has been releasing music about her experience with the legal system and has yet to begin serving her sentence.
