Craig Wright, who falsely claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, is facing another legal battle. The Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) accuses him of contempt of court for attempting to sue them for £900 million ($1.1 billion) over intellectual property rights related to the Bitcoin system in October.
This comes after a previous ruling in March where Judge James Mellor declared that Wright was not Satoshi Nakamoto and issued a court order preventing him from pursuing any such claims in the UK or other jurisdictions. The two-day trial will conclude today, with COPA seeking a prison sentence if found guilty.
They argue that Wright should be imprisoned for 18 months initially, followed by another 6 months if he fails to comply with the court order. This case highlights the ongoing legal disputes surrounding Bitcoin’s origins and ownership.
