“Now it is possible to purchase cryptocurrencies with Apple Pay for debit cards. Enter the chain in seconds with one of the most popular payment methods and with free USDC onramping. We are excited to announce the launch of Apple Pay for fiat to crypto purchases via Coinbase Onramp! Making onramping easier, faster, and more accessible than ever. Say goodbye to long procedures: users can enter the chain in seconds. Here’s how it works..”

In practice, Coinbase users can purchase their crypto using Apple Pay, but only on apps with the Coinbase Onramp tool integrated.

Specifically, users of the crypto exchange will automatically see Apple Pay appear as an option when making an eligible cryptocurrency purchase.

On the contrary, Coinbase invites other apps to set up and integrate Coinbase Onramp, in order to offer this new fiat-to-crypto payment method.

The novelty of Apple Pay for Coinbase therefore provides that the apps have integrated its Coinbase Onramp tool, which offers some advantages.

In this regard, Coinbase explains that its tool Onramp eliminates the bureaucratic frictions of conversions from fiat to crypto.

Among other things, in fact, Coinbase Onramp requires a light KYC for eligible purchases, free activation and deactivation of USDC and access to the most popular payment methods.

Now, in fact, with Apple Pay, access to the chain takes only a few seconds and offers the opportunity for apps to reach its over 60 million US users.

Coinbase cites as an example Moonshot, an app with integrated Onramp that helps users get on-chain without friction.

The collaboration with Visa

Last month, Coinbase formed a partnership with the electronic payments giant Visa, to enhance transfers via debit cards.

In practice, users of the crypto-exchange can now take advantage of certain selected cards to deposit or withdraw funds with ease.

Here too, the goal is to simplify onboarding for the crypto world. The new service was initially made available for USA and EU citizens.
