The COP29 climate conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, has been criticized by environmental activists for the number of private jets used by participants to arrive at the event. FlightRadar24 data shows that 65 private planes landed at the city’s airport in the first week of the conference compared to 32 last year.

The journeys were seen as hypocritical, as the participants were fighting climate change but arrived by private jet. Experts argue that private jets are more polluting than commercial airplanes and trains. However, some aviation experts defended the use of private jets for high-ranking people, claiming it makes more sense than choosing commercial flights.
