Key highlights:

  • Chromia's Asgard Upgrade, set for December 3, marks its first significant mainnet update.

  • The upgrade includes Chromia Extensions, beginning with an Oracle Extension for real-time data integration.

  • An AI Inference Extension is planned for Q1 2025 to support on-chain AI model applications.

Major enhancements coming with Chromia's Asgard Upgrade

Chromia, a Layer-1 relational blockchain, has announced the Asgard Upgrade, scheduled to launch on December 3. This milestone marks the platform's first major mainnet update and introduces Chromia Extensions—a modular approach aimed at empowering developers with the tools to build tailored functionalities while retaining Chromia’s relational framework and gas-free user experience. This upgrade was previously teased in this announcement, at the Token 2049 event. Alex Mizrahi, co-founder of Chromia, stated:

Chromia already has several unique characteristics that make it stand out. Extensions will add another layer of capability, making it even more flexible and powerful.

The initial rollout includes the Oracle Extension, developed alongside decentralized data provider Stork, slated for release shortly after the upgrade. This tool will facilitate real-time integration of off-chain data, significantly enhancing the capabilities for decentralized applications (dApps). Coupled with other improvements, such as asset bridge upgrades and the integration of native CHR with exchanges, these additions aim to spur growth within the Chromia ecosystem.

Future expansion: AI on the blockchain

Set for Q1 2025, the AI Inference Extension represents a forward-looking step for Chromia's blockchain. This feature will allow on-chain deployment of AI models, using Chromia’s computational strengths to support transparent AI project development.

Yeou Jie, Chromia's Head of Business Development, highlighted that this aligns with the network's goal to provide clarity in AI training and data handling.

Chromia’s unique relational architecture already allows AI-enabled blockchain projects to bring transparency to their training models, data sources, and inputs. The Inference Extension will advance this even further, allowing more elements of the AI process to operate directly on-chain.

The bottom line

With the Asgard Upgrade, Chromia is advancing its mainnet with modular tools designed to attract more developers and applications. The upcoming Oracle and AI Inference Extensions signal a significant push to maintain a versatile blockchain environment, supporting real-time data needs and positioning itself as a viable platform for decentralized AI projects.
