Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum’s co-founder, recently addressed the debate between Solana and Ethereum. He claimed that Solana’s Proof of Stake (PoS) system is significantly more centralized than Ethereum’s. He also explained that running a Solana node is more complex, and many community initiatives on Solana are supported by the Solana Foundation.

Buterin argued that Solana’s focus on applications has a lower demand for decentralization than Ethereum. He suggested that for blockchains supporting 100 transactions per second (TPS), Ethereum’s Layer 1 (L1) can’t meet this demand, leaving two options: switching to a high-performance blockchain or using Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) solutions.

Buterin highlighted Ethereum’s commitment to decentralization, neutrality, and security, and cited examples of Ethereum’s improvements in addressing centralization challenges. He also conceded that Ethereum L1 may not be ideal for high-performance applications, which is why Ethereum relies on L2.
