Bungie has announced a notable change to its content strategy for Destiny 2, starting in the year 2025. According to the new roadmap, 2 paid expansions and 4 free seasons will be added per year, indicating significant updates in the way players will experience the game in the future.

This announcement comes after The Final Shape expansion, which concluded the long-running Light and Darkness saga. Bungie is now preparing to begin a new multi-year narrative, although it will attempt to rejuvenate the story away from the well-known arch.

The new season which is now going to be referred to as “Episodes” is expected every three months and is going to be free of charge to all players. Every season is expected to offer a new set of gear, mods, activities and gameplay updates, with some activities being recreations of older activities.

Bungie Sets the Stage for a Bold New Chapter with Apollo Saga

The 2025 roadmap will mark the entrance into the new saga which will be codenamed “Apollo” which the company has teased as an interesting branch from the previous storylines. Bungie emphasized that the new storyline will offer the chance for the game to go deeper into a new era that might present players with unforeseen twists and reward them with new experiences within the game that will offer an entirely new Destiny 2.

Bungie’s decision is perhaps the most appropriate for the game at this stage since many of the long-time players have been complaining about its repetitive content formula. The number of steam users has also sunk to unprecedented levels while the studio has last month had a round of staff cuts. The seasonal free content and the radical shift in content production appear to be aimed at tackling the tiredness of the players and making the game more accessible to newcomers.

Bungie Introduces Free Seasons Packed with Reward Passes and Updates

Under Bungie’s new system, the free seasons will have standard updates like balancing the gameplay, new weapons, artifacts, mods, and events. Bungie has also confirmed that every season will be graced with a reward pass filled with cosmetics items, gear, and resources.

However, it was not clearly mentioned whether such passes would have normal and premium tiers or not.

With the new chapter of Destiny 2, Bungie intends to deal with serious complaints of resource-draining content and the game’s complexity for new gamers. Even though details about the upcoming expansions and narrative are still kept secret, players are already looking forward to how the studio fulfills its promise regarding the revival of Destiny 2.
