According to Odaily, Elon Musk discussed the high costs associated with car ownership during a Robotaxi event. He pointed out that many people face significant financial challenges due to expenses such as car insurance, loans, and storage. Musk emphasized that the average car is used for only about 10 hours per week out of a total of 168 hours, meaning that vehicles remain idle for the vast majority of the time.

Musk suggested that the advent of autonomous vehicles could dramatically increase the utilization rate of cars. He proposed that if cars were self-driving, their usage could potentially increase five to ten times. This would significantly enhance the value of each vehicle, as the same car could be used much more frequently. Musk reiterated that with 168 hours in a week, the current usage of just 10 hours highlights the inefficiency and underutilization of traditional vehicles.
