🚨🚨😨 Police 👮 Officer Among Suspect in Pakistan 🇵🇰 Crypto Trader's Kidnapping
A cryptocurrency trader named Mohammed Arsalan was kidnapped in Karachi on December 25, 2024, and coerced into transferring $340,000 (approximately Rs90 million) from his Binance account to the abductors' accounts.
The kidnappers, some impersonating police officers, abducted Arsalan from his residence in Saima Arabian Villas, Manghopir. They transported him to a location near the FIA office in Saddar, where they forced the transfer of funds. After the transaction, they released him near the Quaid-e-Azam's mausoleum.
Following an investigation by the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC), seven suspects were arrested, including an officer from the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD). The arrested individuals are identified as Haris alias Ashar, Mohammed Rizwan Shah, Tariq Hasan Shah alias Amir, Muzammil Raza, Umer Jilani, Umer Irshad, and Noman Riffat. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend another policeman who remains at large.
Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon emphasized that this criminal act was perpetrated by individuals and does not reflect the operations of the CTD as a whole. He assured that strict actions, including departmental proceedings and potential dismissal from service, would be taken against any police personnel involved in illegal activities.
This incident highlights concerns about the involvement of law enforcement officers in criminal activities, particularly targeting individuals in the cryptocurrency sector. Authorities are urged to implement measures to prevent such occurrences and ensure the safety of citizens engaged in legitimate businesses.
