U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has announced that he will nominate Paul Atkins as the next chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Atkins, a former SEC commissioner, is currently involved with crypto and tokenization. Trump highlighted Atkins’ awareness of crypto, stating that Atkins “recognizes that digital assets & other innovations are crucial to Making America Greater than Ever Before.” Atkins is expected to take a lighter stance on crypto regulation compared to the current SEC chair, Gary Gensler.
Crypto industry members are hopeful that Atkins will treat crypto reasonably. Atkins must still be confirmed by the U.S. Senate and sworn in before taking on the role.
