This new feature, currently being tested in Chile, Colombia, Malaysia, and South Korea, introduces a highly secure and anonymous method for identity verification while unlocking the ability to claim additional WLD tokens.
The pilot represents a significant milestone for World ID, as it broadens its accessibility to passport holders who may not be near an Orb, traditionally used for identity verification. For those without access to an Orb, this feature provides an opportunity to join the World Network meaningfully. The initiative also supports users who have already verified their humanness at an Orb, offering them additional functionality through the credential system.
Accessibility, Incentives, and the Future of Digital Identity
With the pilot, Worldcoin aims to bridge the gap for the estimated 1.2 billion passport holders worldwide who may otherwise face barriers to joining the World Network. The introduction of the World ID Passport Credential allows these individuals to participate without needing to visit an Orb, significantly broadening the platform’s reach.
Additionally, the credential system enables eligible users to claim WLD tokens beyond the standard amount available through Orb verification. Currently, individuals verified through an Orb can claim approximately 51.66 WLD tokens. With a Verified Passport Credential, users can claim additional tokens, regardless of prior Orb verification. However, the total amount of available tokens will decrease over time, incentivizing early participation.
The pilot is currently being launched for iOS users in the participating countries, with Android compatibility expected soon. This phased rollout allows for the system to be tested and refined before expanding to additional countries. The World Foundation has expressed its commitment to making the credential system available to a wider audience soon.
