The Canton of Bern in Switzerland passed a bill to study Bitcoin mining and its potential impact on the region’s power grid, with 85 votes in favor and 46 against. Led by MP Samuel Kullmann and the “Parliamentary Group Bitcoin,” the legislation aims to understand how mining operations could help manage surplus electricity and stabilize the local power grid.
The Executive Council, however, raised concerns about energy competition and regulatory challenges. Despite this, Bern’s decision positions Switzerland as a crypto-friendly hub in Europe.
