Pump.fun, a decentralized launchpad for meme coins, has suspended its live streaming feature following its reported use to share shocking and controversial videos. The platform, known for enabling users to promote Solana-based crypto token launches through live streams, has faced mounting criticism after alleged instances of dangerous and odd behavior surfaced. These include ostensible criminal acts and individuals making suicide threats during broadcasts.
While Pump.fun has made efforts to moderate its platform, critics argue that the platform’s model, while innovative, lacks the necessary safeguards to prevent misuse. The issue has sparked a heated debate within the crypto community, which remains divided over the platform’s responsibilities. Some advocate for stricter content controls to prevent harmful material from spreading, while others champion the ethos of decentralization, urging the community to self-regulate.
“To ensure the absolute safety of our users, we will be pausing the live streaming functionality on the site for an indefinite time period until the moderation infrastructure is ready to deal with the heightened levels of activity,” a Pump.fun update discloses.
