A federal grand jury in Miami has charged nine individuals with laundering US drug profits into cryptocurrency for Mexican and Colombian cartels. The suspects used a network of black market cryptocurrency launderers and unlicensed money transmitters to move the funds from 2020 to 2023. The defendants allegedly coordinated cash pickups from US drug sales and converted them into cryptocurrencies to hide the illicit origin of the money.

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) is prosecuting the case.
