Japanese Crypto Exchange DMM Bitcoin Suffers $305M Hack

On May 31, 2024, Japanese cryptocurrency exchange DMM Bitcoin fell victim to a major hack, resulting in the theft of 4,502.9 BTC (approximately $305 million).

The hacker divided up the stolen bitcoin across 10 wallets in batches of 500 BTC.

DMM Bitcoin has taken measures to prevent further unauthorized outflows and temporarily restricted all spot buys on the platform.

The exchange promises that all customers’ Bitcoin deposits will be fully guaranteed by procuring an equivalent amount of BTC with support from group companies.
