The U.S. Department of Justice ( #DOJ ) has taken action against the founders of Samourai Wallet, a cryptocurrency wallet service. Keonne Rodriguez, the CEO, and William Lonergan Hill, the CTO and co-founder, were arrested. The DOJ alleges that Samourai Wallet operated an unlicensed cryptocurrency mixing service, facilitating over $2 billion in unlawful transactions and laundering more than $100 million in criminal proceeds. The company offered privacy-enhancing features but allegedly enabled criminal activity. The founders face charges related to money laundering and operating an unlicensed money transmitting business. This move by regulators reflects their ongoing crackdown on transaction mixing services and developers.
