BNB Chain Launches Rollup Solution for Layer 2 Networks

The BNB Chain, associated with the Binance cryptocurrency exchange, announced the launch of a rollup-as-a-service (RaaS) solution this Thursday (14th).

According to the announcement, the solution will allow projects to build layer 2 blockchains on the network. In practice, this will expand the capabilities of the BNB Smart Chain (BSC) ecosystem by offering infrastructure for dedicated rollups efficiently and affordably.

As highlighted by the BNB Chain team, this RaaS solution facilitates access to technology for building layer 2 networks for decentralized applications (dapps), including no-code options and simplifying development for creators.

Currently, the BSC holds the third position in total value locked (TVL), with $6.1 billion, according to data from the DeFi Llama platform. The network is only behind Ethereum ($56.7 billion) and Tron ($10.5 billion).

BNB Chain Launches Rollup for Layer 2s

The BNB Chain developers emphasized in the announcement that layer 2 networks (layers 2) built with RaaS will depend on the main chain used to build the BNB Smart Chain.

Highlighting the potential of this new service, the BNB Chain development team mentioned that developers will have a complete set of tools to build efficient and scalable layer 2s on the BSC. The idea is to combine the power of RaaS with the interconnectivity capabilities of the ecosystem.

“By combining the power of RaaS and the interconnectivity capabilities of our ecosystem, developers will have a comprehensive toolkit for building efficient and scalable Layer 2s on the BSC,” said the main development team of the BNB Chain in a statement.

The BNB Chain ecosystem encompasses five networks. The list includes the BSC, Ethereum-compatible, and layer 2 solutions like opBNB and zkBNB. It also includes the BNB Greenfield data storage network and the BNB Beacon Chain, which will migrate its functions to the BSC.
