According to Foresight News, Light Protocol, a privacy project in the Solana ecosystem, has partnered with Helius Labs, a Solana infrastructure provider, to launch ZK Compression. This initiative aims to expand applications on the Solana network. ZK Compression operates through a process known as state compression, which allows developers to store certain types of data using cheaper ledger space on Solana, rather than the more expensive account space. The 'hash' or 'fingerprint' of off-chain data is stored on-chain for verification using 'sparse state trees'. This innovative approach could potentially make the Solana network more accessible and cost-effective for developers.
